I’m Eleanor, a physiotherapist specialising in acquired brain injury and balance disorders.

My goal is to work with you to establish client centred goals and create an individualised treatment program aimed to reduce the impact of your condition on your function and lifestyle.

Since qualifying in physiotherapy at Sheffield University (1998), I have worked extensively in neurology, acquired brain injury and vestibular rehabilitation. Both in the NHS and working in independent practice from 2001.

I have a specialist interest in mild traumatic brain injury, complex vestibular and balance problems, and post concussion syndrome.

I'm often asked... Can you make me better?

The answer is almost always, we can definitely improve your condition. Having a vestibular condition feels terrifying, perhaps you haven’t left the house for weeks, feel like you’re on a boat or something else here. Please, don’t be frightened, let’s sit down, talk about your condition and figure our how we can make you better.

What is Acquired Brain Injury? An acquired Brain injury (ABI) is damage to the brain that occurred after birth. Acquired Brain Injuries can be classified as traumatic brain injuries (TBI) or non-traumatic brain injuries.

Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI): A TBI is caused by a sudden trauma to the head, usually causing localised damage to the brain. There can also be some widespread damage to the brain caused by the forces applied to the brain during the trauma. TBI can therefore cause effects throughout the person’s body.

Non-traumatic Brain Injury: Non TBI is usually caused by a disease or some form of damage to the brain tissue. For example a tumour, stroke or bleed. These can either cause widespread damage or focal damage and therefore effects can be varied.

Eleanor has completely changed my life! I cannot recommend her highly enough, she is an absolutely brilliant physio and has totally transformed my life. She is an expert in her field and the treatment she gives is phenomenal. As a sufferer of the most horrendous, debilitating episodes of vertigo where I couldn’t stand, work or drive without feeling unbalanced and being constantly sick, I went to see Eleanor. She explained in detail her diagnosis, thoughts, treatment plan and exactly what my body needed to help me get better and improve as well as explaining thoroughly exactly what I needed to work on daily at home to help me. After just 1 treatment, I was blown away with the results as I could return to work, stopped being sick and was able to resume my normal daily activities. I see Eleanor anytime I feel like my vertigo is having a wobble and she quickly gets me back on track! I cannot thank Eleanor enough for helping me so much! She is amazing and has changed my life!

PCS can develop after any concussive event (falls, car accidents, contact sports, etc) but the client doesn’t always take a direct hit or experience a loss of consciousness prior to experiencing PCS. Many patients for example suffer concussion symptoms after whiplash.

In general terms it is a medical problem that persists for a period of time after a head injury has occurred. This period of time can range from weeks to months.
